What Are The Best Wireless Mics For Churches?

In today’s episode of controversial subjects we’ll be be talking about 3 of my favorite wireless mics for churches and why I like them so much. Full disclosure, I am usually a bigger fan of Shure than Sennheiser but that’s not really for any audio differences, rather than the connivence of using Shure Wireless Workbench more smoothly. I’m adding one of these to this list for the sake of all things fair.

Budget Friendly Option: Shure SLX-D Series

We install so many of these microphones. The SLX-D is an incredible mic, especially when considering the price point. One great thing about this mic is that they are the most affordable mics in the Shure catalog that offer networking options for Wireless Workbench. Let’s make one thing clear, wireless workbench IS 100% usable WITHOUT an RJ45 jack. It’s just completely manual and slows down the workflow a bit. These mics have a great quality as far as audio goes, and the options for upgrading to the Beta 58 transmitter is a huge plus as well.

Favorite Option: Shure ULX Series

This escalated quickly didn’t it? Yes, I know that these mics are drastically more expensive, and that may be out of reach in some instances. However, you won’t regret this monster of a microphone if your using it in church. I recommend swapping the capsule on the Beta 58 version of the microphone to something from Heil or DPA. I believe, at least the last time I looked into it, that Steven Furtick from Elevation Church was using this mic with a DPA capsule, but I could be wrong. The sound quality of these units is completely unmatched. Keep in mind that you still get that option of networking these mics together for easy access to Wireless Workbench when working on frequency plans.

The Other Guy: Sennheiser ew 500 Series

As I stated before, I have no problem with Sennheiser units aside from the workflow with wireless workbench. To be honest, I’m actually a bigger fan of their wireless in ear units than anyone else on the market. The workflow is just a factor for me. The Sennheiser ew 500 series is far from a “budget” option but totally worth every penny when you hear how incredible these microphones sound. Side note, I do wish that Sennheiser would get away from the silver-ish color of their rack units. It looks like the recievers are straight out of 1980 and reminds me of a living room with those cheap wood panels on the walls.
